Youth Services Clerk (18 HOURS PER WEEK)

The Youth Services Clerk will primarily provide program and kit preparation, shelving, desk coverage, and other support to the Youth Services staff and patrons. Occasionally, the Youth Services Clerk will also cover the Circulation desk in Adult Services, assisting patrons with reference and readers’ advisor, check out, library accounts, and instructing patrons on the use of equipment, software, and services. This is an 18-hour-per-week, part-time, non-exempt position. The Youth Services Clerk reports to the Youth Services Manager.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Assists with all Youth Services projects and collections management as needed.
  • Shelves Youth Services materials
  • Assists patrons of all ages with reference, readers’ advisory, and programming questions
  • Fulfills all opening, closing, and day-to-day facility procedures
  • Works the desk and all related duties, including troubleshooting minor computer and printer problems for patrons and shelving materials
  • Assists patrons in the use of library-provided mobile apps
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings when possible
  • Attends educational workshops when possible
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: A high school diploma or working toward it is preferred
  • Experience: Some work experience is preferred but not required
  • Skills: Responsive to text and email. Microsoft Office, email, and familiarity with web-based searching and applications are required. Comfortable working with the public. Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of teamwork in a small library. Able to multitask. Able to prioritize tasks appropriately. Comfortable with 21st–century office technology.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position for periods of time; move inside the facility; and constantly operate a computer and other office machinery, such as a phone, a copy machine, printers, etc. The employee is regularly required to communicate information and ideas so others will understand and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The employee must have the ability to observe details at close and far range. The employee must regularly retrieve from and replace items on high and low shelves. The employee must regularly set up and take down tables, chairs, and other furniture for library programs. The employee must occasionally move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds and/or push carts weighing up to 50 pounds.

Hours

This position is for weekday evenings, with the occasional Saturday.

Salary 

$16.00/hour
